IHI is continuing construction work of a bridge over the Irtysh River, ordered by the East Kazakhstan State government. The bridge is a 1.1km long steel suspension bridge spanning the river through Semipalatinsk City. 10.6km access roads to the bridge from both Russia and China are also being constructed by IHI. Completion is scheduled for October 2000.
The climate of the district has extreme variations in temperature between summer and winter, 50�Ž at the highest and minus 50�Ž at the lowest. Despite such severe natural environment, IHI is speeding up construction work for the opening to the public using technological expertise accumulated through post many bridge construction achievements worldwide.
